Position Overview:

The Director of Education plans, develops, and administers the educational program of the Museum.  S/he confers with the Chief Operating Officer and the Education Committee to decide scope of programs to be offered. Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions*):

~Works with teachers and school administrators to develop and execute field trips and other educational programs for students.

~Works with Bristol Warren and other school system representatives to develop programs that provide useful and enjoyable educational experiences for students, especially in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

~Works with other staff members to plan and present film programs and other special activities.

~Assists the Volunteer Manager in planning and developing training materials and programs for docents, guides and other volunteers.

~Prepares budgets for education programs.

~Assists in the preparation of marketing and other materials for education programs, especially the summer sailing program.

~Executes the student enrollment process for the sailing school and other educational programs.

~Participates in the development of exhibits, particularly with respect to thee educational aspects of the exhibits.

~Plans, recruits speakers for and manages the Museum’s lecture series. 

Supervision Received:

Reports to the Chief Operating Officer.Receives guidance and direction from the Education Committee. 

Supervision Exercised:

Sailing School DirectorShipwright/Mentorship Instructor with regards to mentorship program.   

Qualifications & Skills: REQUIRED:

Bachelor’s degreeTeaching experience 

PREFERRED:

Experience with and interest in sailingDegree in Museum Science or Museum EducationExperience planning for or teaching to curriculum standards
